Global Courses

WST 3015 - Introduction to Global Gender and Women’s Studies

COM 3417 - Communication in Film

This course was one of the first Global Learning courses I participated in. It allowed me to find my love for learning outside of the classroom. In this course, there were discussions on the different cultures, religions, racial identities, and geographical locations that impacted women’s everyday lives. In addition, this course really details the in’s and outs of how important it is for women to have control over their own lives. It highlights the struggles we face here in the United States, as well as many other countries around the world. It is vital that these issues are brought to the forefront more often to produce positive change.

This course was the second of Global Learning courses I participated in. Personally, this course highlighted how important media is in society. All forms of media have the power to impact and convey different meanings to the audience. Thus, it is important people are able to understand the tricks directors and crews use to show different emotions, thoughts, and actions. This is possible through lighting, camera angles, music, shadows, and so much more.

Global Learning Events

Tuesday Time Roundtables

Tuesday Time Roundtables provided FIU students the opportunity to meet new guests each meeting. During this session we would discuss important topics that pertained to Global Learning. For example, one week we covered the power of student voices! These meetings are a great opportunity to expand your knowledge and find a love for learning outside of the classroom.
